Working Principle

When used, the dog chuck is fixed to the lathe spindle nose or back plate, and the piece being worked is placed between the four jaws and tightened to be concentric or for a controlled offset. Individually movable jaws allow the chuck to firmly hold square, rectangular, octagonal, and irregular workpieces which are not capable of being held in a 3-jaw chuck that self aligns the jaws. This independent movement also provides the ability to perform eccentric turns on command, if needed for special operations.
